A maker of custom data collection technology for archaeologists needed to broaden their brand to launch the world’s first Field Data Management product.

Insight

The company had codified the best practices of digital archaeology to help solve the problems faced by any industry involved in fieldwork—greatly expanding their potential market. We realized showing respect for their roots was the way to help them lead into the future.

Solution

We found a way to gently evolve the company’s unique logo – from prehistoric art to a modern symbol that says input, output, and security – and around it we built a strikingly simple brand system that demands attention.

The Design System

The Codifi design system places the sometimes messy realities of Field Data Management within a simplified “ones-and-zeroes” framework to communicate the company’s promise to make a difficult task easy. Photography finds fieldworkers in their natural habitat but always supported by Codifi technology.

The color palette is deliberately straight-forward; grounded in the vibrant yellow and solid black of the “caution tape” often found in the fieldwork and complemented by steel and stone dust greys that echo the notion of the ancient and the modern brought together.
